Momo Minamoto (源 モモ, Minamoto Momo), codename Momochi (百地), is the main protagonist of the Release the Spyce series.
Appearance[]
She has short, shoulder-length pale pink hair. She has golden-brown eyes, which turn bright yellow in Spyce mode. She is mostly seen wearing her school uniform and her Tsukikage outfit, but she wears casual clothing when she is at home and a green tracksuit when training with her mentor. She is the second shortest of the group.
Personality[]
As one of the newer members of the Tsukikage, Momo is usually kind and respectful. She goes the extra mile to achieve her goals, and motivates herself to do her best in order to live up to her father's legacy. She is always well-mannered and always tries to be as useful as possible during missions, while trying not to mess up and make her mentor disappointed.
Despite her usual cheerful personality, she is rather timid and therefore she finds it difficult to interact with new people due to her insecurities and general low self-esteem. Momo deeply admires her master Yuki Hanzōmon and does everything she can to please her.
After the intense training provided by her mentor, once she becomes a full-fledged member, her confidence level has significantly increased, and her social skills have improved greatly.
Background[]
Momo lived happily together with her mother and father where he worked as a policeman, whom she looked up to. Momo was very popular among the neighborhood for her friendliness and usual cheerfulness.
One day, when her father left for work, he unfortunately passed away due to an accident that occurred that this deeply saddened Momo.
After her father died, Momo wanted to make him proud by vowing to protect the city. This led to her determination to be a policewoman when she grows up.
Plot[]
Abilities[]
Momo's senses are supernaturally perceptive. She has excellent vision, as demonstrated by how she sees the distant silhouettes of the Tsukikage at night in Episode 1. She also has a great sense of smell, which she can use to track people down. Her most impressive sense is her sense of taste, which she can use to discern peoples' thoughts, physical conditions, and emotions.
Momo becomes a skilled fighter under the tutelage of Yuki Hanzōmon where she is capable of defeating Kurara Tendō in a swordfight in Episode 12.
Like the other Tsukikage combatants, Momo can consume special spices known as "Spyce" to grant herself superhuman physical abilities.
Etymology[]
- Momo's codename Momochi means "hundred" (百) (momo) and "earth, land" (地) (chi).
- Momo's surname Minamoto means "source" (源).
- Momo bears a resemblance to Akari Akaza of Yuru Yuri, because of similar hair color. Moreover, both Momo and Akari have the same character designer Namori.
Trivia[]
- Momo, Yuki Hanzōmon (Momo's mentor) and Nagaho Fujibayashi (Yuki's mentor) all use a Japanese sword in combat.
